IN/between constructions
exploring objects that make space for reflections
2018

IN/between constructions is an artistic investigation of furniture-scale objects and how their design expressions, functions and formats of presentation can make space for reflections. This project is about exploring how objects can trigger inner thoughts but also how they can enable conversations between people. The main purpose for this investigation is to present and communicate unconventional means to bring both participant and observer into a state of mind that possibly holds potential for change.

The project is approached in a rather experiential manner and the narration of the story is composed alongside its development. It is expressed and materialized both spatially and performatively and it consists of two pieces: a table and a chair, but also of communicative material in form of a video and events arranged in connection to the physical objects. The table has a tilting table top and is presented in Dine together, to get there, a concept that seeks to encourage conversations between people. NAIBU chair is designed with meditation in mind and it aims to spark inner reflections.

This project unfolds through interactions with the objects and people’s subjective experiences and the result is not distinct, nor measurable. The result can merely be seen as a cloud of understandings, that transforms and shapes with the help and support of an intricate net of objects, people, methods, places, imaginations, images, processes, conversations, reflections and many other things that probably can’t be explained or defined.
